STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥擱enowned documentary and natural history photographer Raul Touzon is visiting Mississippi 大象APP on Tuesday [Oct. 18] for an immersive, vividly visual lecture series event.

The Cuban-born, Miami-based photojournalist is presenting 鈥淭wo Pillars of Faith鈥 at 5 p.m. in the Griffis Hall Forum Room 401C, sharing his documentation of seldom-visited spots around the world through the university鈥檚 Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures Lecture Series.

With centuries-old South American traditions and celebrations among his award-winning collection, Touzon will explore Mexico鈥檚 Day of the Dead and Semana Santa, or Holy Week, in Antigua, Guatemala. Both are colorful, elaborate and many times festive events that Touzon chronicled for more than a decade.

Also a full-time educator for more than 20 years, Touzon鈥檚 work has been featured by high-profile publications including TIME, U.S. News and World Report, the New York Times and National Geographic鈥攖he 133-year-old monthly magazine with which he has an ongoing affiliation.

The event is co-sponsored by the Shackouls Honors College, Department of Art, and the Spanish honor society Sigma Delta Pi. The Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures is online at .
