Templeton History and Genealogy Fair returns to MSU鈥檚 Mitchell Memorial Library June 1

STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥敶笙驛PP Libraries is hosting the sixth annual E.O. Templeton Jr. History and Genealogy Fair on June 1 at Mitchell Memorial Library.

Admission is free, but those interested in attending the 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. event are asked to register online at . Participants can purchase a boxed lunch.

Charles Ross and Jeffrey Jackson, co-chairs of the University of Mississippi Slavery Research Group, will give a 9:15 a.m. keynote presentation.

Pattye Archer, coordinator at MSU Libraries鈥 Digital Media Center, will lead a lunchtime 鈥淢ake Your Own Family Tree鈥 program.

At 2:30 p.m., Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians Archivist Amanda Bell and Delta Chinese Heritage Museum Archivist Emily Jones will lead a panel discussion.

Other activities and workshops include:

鈥斺淎ncestry 101鈥 and 鈥淎ncestry/Online Genealogy 201,鈥 led by MSU Libraries Assistant Professor DeeDee Baldwin.

鈥斺淢aximizing DNA Research,鈥 led by MSU Associate Professor of Music Ryan Ross.

鈥斺淥ral History 101,鈥 led by MSU Libraries University Archivist Jessica Perkins Smith.

鈥斺淢ake a Digital Family Story Map,鈥 led by MSU Libraries Assistant Professor Corinne Kennedy.

鈥斺淢ilitary Genealogy,鈥 led by Assistant Professor Jenifer Ishee Hoffman of MSU Libraries鈥 Manuscripts Division.

Participants also can take tours of the library鈥檚 Charles H. Templeton Sr. Music Museum, John Grisham Room, Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library, and Frank and Virginia Williams Collection of Lincolniana. The Special Collections Department will be open for genealogy research, and door prizes will be given away throughout the day.
