STARKVILLE, Miss.â´ķĪķAPPâs Center for Distance Education is announcing three recipients of its second annual âDistance Makes a Differenceâ scholarships.
The recipients were chosen from nearly 160 qualified applicants who completed an essay questionnaire. Responses illustrated how distance education enables each recipient to achieve personal academic goals, as well as life lessons learned while pursuing education online. Applicants also discussed how the scholarship would help them in completing an online degree.
Students receiving the $1,000 scholarships represent MSUâs colleges of Business and Education. They include:
âHeather Hefner of Myrtle. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in elementary education with a concentration in middle school.
âJinna Alston of Rose Hill. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in elementary education with a concentration in middle school.Â
âDrew Simmons of Ladson, South Carolina. He is pursuing a Master of Business Administration in project management.
âWe are very pleased to invest in the online education of Heather, Jinna and Drew through the âDistance Makes a Differenceâ Scholarship Fund,â said Susan Seal, executive director for the Center for Distance Education. âAs we reviewed their applications, it was abundantly apparent that they are determined to overcome obstacles to completing their degrees in order to enhance their abilities to support their families and serve their communities.â
Seal said the CDE is able to award these scholarships because of gifts from generous donors. To make a gift to the Distance Education Scholarship Fund, visit . Under âgive now,â choose âotherâ and designate the gift for the Center for Distance Education Scholarships.
