STARKVILLE, Miss.âMississippi ´ķĪķAPPâs 12th annual âDawg Daysâ series of events is set to offer new students opportunities to connect with others before the semester begins.
The nine consecutive days of free student events start Aug. 12 with MVNU2MSU, when residence halls open for students. The complete Dawg Days schedule is available online at .
Among the activities will be the popular Battleship game at the Sanderson Center Pool and Service Dawgs Day, when students work on various service projects in the local community. Students will have many opportunities to learn about campus organizations and services available to them. A welcome concert featuring a tribute to the Eagles will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 15 in the MSU Amphitheater.
Barbecue and other food items will be available at no charge during many of the Dawg Days events.
Additionally, the Center for Student Activities is encouraging incoming freshmen and transfer students to participate in a Class of 2021 photo that will be taken on the Famous Maroon Bandâs practice field on Hardy Road. The photo will be taken at 6:15 p.m. on Sunday [Aug. 13].
MSU Dean of Students Thomas Bourgeois said Dawg Days activities play a significant role in welcoming the newest members of the Bulldog family to their home away from home.
âOne of the most important ways new students can adjust to college life at Mississippi ´ķĪķAPP is to find âfit,â or the feeling of belonging and being a part of something,â Bourgeois said. âDawg Days is a great way for students to find this fit by getting familiar with campus and making connections with other students before classes begin.â
MSU will hold its Fall Convocation ceremony on Aug. 17 at 5:30 p.m. All new students are encouraged to attend.
The Division of Student Affairs sponsors Dawg Days events, with assistance from, among others, MSU departments of Health Education and Wellness, Recreational Sports, Maroon Volunteer Center, Music Maker Productions, National Residence Hall Honorary, Office of Admissions and Scholarships, Panhellenic Council and Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, Holmes Cultural Diversity Center, and Student Association, as well as multiple student organizations across campus.
