Get ready to ‘Howell at the Moon’ at MSU’s Howell Observatory

Mississippi APP’s Department of Physics and Astronomy and Astronomy Club are hosting a special Halloween public viewing Friday [Oct. 30] at the university’s Howell Observatory.

STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi APP’s Department of Physics and Astronomy and Astronomy Club are hosting a special Halloween public viewing Friday [Oct. 30] at the university’s Howell Observatory.

Titled “Howell at the Moon,” the 7-9 p.m. event is free to all and will include observations of the Andromeda galaxy, a visiting asteroid and the Moon.

Children of all ages are encouraged to wear costumes, and candy will be provided.

Clouds or rain will cancel the viewing.

The observatory is located at the H.H. Leveck Animal Research Center, also known as South Farm. To reach the facility, take Blackjack Road to the intersection of Stone Blvd., then turn south onto Stone Blvd. Extended and continue for two miles. Signs mark the route to the site.
